A dark spot in a mirror. A twinge when you sip something cold. A tiny cavity now can become a bigger problem later. The good news? Tooth-colored (composite) fillings repair decay with a conservative, natural-looking solution that blends beautifully with your smile—no silver shadows, no flashing metal.
Tooth-colored fillings are composite resins made from a blend of dental glass and polymer. They bond microscopically to enamel and dentin, allowing conservative preparation: we remove only the decayed portion, preserve healthy tooth structure, and rebuild anatomy to restore strength and function.
Left untreated, cavities progress from enamel into dentin and can eventually reach the nerve, increasing the chance you’ll need a crown or root canal. Early care is easier, smaller, and less expensive.
We examine the tooth visually and with digital X-rays if needed. We’ll measure the extent of decay and review your options.
Many shallow areas can be treated without numbing. For deeper lesions, we’ll comfortably anesthetize the area.
We remove the softened, infected tissue and shape the cavity conservatively.
The tooth is isolated, primed, and bonded. Composite resin is placed in layers and light-cured, allowing precise control of shape.
We sculpt grooves and ridges for natural bite, polish the surface to a glossy finish, and check occlusion. You’ll leave ready to eat (after numbness wears off).
With proper brushing, flossing, and checkups, composites can last 7–10 years or more. Lifespan depends on the size of the filling, bite forces, and oral hygiene.
Mild temperature sensitivity is common for a few days—especially with deeper fillings. This typically resolves as the tooth calms down. If the filling feels “high,” call us; a quick adjustment relieves bite pressure.
Will people see it?
No—the color is blended to your tooth shade.
Can I eat right away?
Once numbness fades, yes. Avoid chewing your cheek or tongue while numb.
Is the material safe?
Dental composites are rigorously tested and widely used worldwide.
Most dental insurance plans cover composite fillings similarly to amalgam on back teeth and fully on front teeth. We’ll provide a clear estimate before treatment and help maximize any benefits.
Composite fillings are a smart, beautiful way to protect your teeth. If you’re feeling sensitivity or see a suspicious spot, let’s take a look and address it promptly.
